                Welcome all Freelancers!

In response to a growing demand for service, WriteSmart is looking to expand its pool of freelance tutors. Our wish is to offer freelancers the opportunity to use their skills to add value to the lives of others while earning a reasonable income for the effort. Ultimately, we would like to be able to offer you the opportunity to work consistently and as much as you like if you adhere to our code of practice and client care and consistently deliver excellent work.

If you meet the necessary requirements, we will enter you into our database. Initially, we will only pass incoming work in excess of what the core team can manage, to freelancers. If you enjoy this way of working and consistently deliver great quality, you may like to join the current core team as the workload grows.

With regard to remuneration, our current policy is to pass approximately 40% to 60% of the client’s fee directly on to the tutors. Everyone will start at 40%, and the percentage will increase as your work is able to meet the criteria for great tutoring and excellent client care. This policy may change in future, but our intention is to make sure that all those who work along with us feel motivated to give the best possible service to clients and are able to perform their duties without feeling “ripped off.” (Most Online Language Laboratories pay their tutors in the region of 20% of the fee taken from the client.) Similarly, if freelancers are not able to deliver work of good quality, we simply will not pass any further work along to them.

The requirements to do this work are:
                • a post-graduate degree in English or Education
                • good conceptual abilities
                • a good grasp of English grammar, but no need to be a fussy grammarian
                • experience teaching or tutoring, and online, asynchronous tutoring will be a great bonus
                • an ability to cooperate with others, keep your commitments, and meet deadlines
                • a commitment to compassionate and friendly client care
                • a broadband connection and good basic computer skills such as downloading, uploading, sending attachments, and so on

It would be best if you currently have an existing source of income. This work may offer you a more consistent stream of income in future, but essentially, for now you will be “freelancing.”

It is also best to be able to do this work when you have space from other responsibilities and turn it down when other obligations are crowding your time. Work of this kind is great when there is a sense of freedom about doing it, otherwise it easily becomes soul destroying drudgery. That really does not enhance the tutor's quality of life or make for good quality work, so it is to be avoided at all costs!

We trust that ultimately enjoyment and reasonable income will make our collective endeavours pleasant and rewarding.

If I have not scared you off yet, please contact us, and we'll send you an assessment task. Once we have your response, we will proceed from there. We hope for applicants who would be better at this type of work than we are! Some people may need some training, and other people may need extensive training*, and others would not be suitable at all. Please bear that in mind as you consider doing this type of work.

For now, kind regards, and all the best
                Steve Wertheim
